Silver is known to benefit in the medical field since more than 2000 years. It was in 19th century when the compounds made of silver were seen in a number of antimicrobial purposes. In addition to this, these particles are also used in different pharmaceutical, biological and physical applications. The silver particles are used in elevators and public places as well.

The nano particles made of silver come in size of 1 to 100 nm. They have unique in features and they can be used in medical therapies, molecular diagnostics and in medical devices. Synthesis of silver nanowires is done through chemical and physical methods.

Silver nanowires in the medical applications

Because of the distinctive properties of these silver nanowires, they are used in daily life of human life. Some of the places in the routine life when these are used are fabric cleaners, house cleaning lotions, anti reflection coatings in order to enhance the heat transfer and improve the performance of applications.

Anti microbial behaviour of these silver nanoparticles is the most important feature which helps to be utilized in medical field. In addition to this, many studies have been made to identify its use in healing of the wounds and in reduction of MMP or matrix metalloproteinase and increase neutrophil apoptosis in wound. It is noticed that MMP has the ability to induce inflammation.

These particles are used in the bone cements for replacing with artificial joints. Sometimes, they are even induced in the skin or blood of the humans.
